We started in 2017, out of Bangalore. Pranay and Avantika, figuring out weddings one shoot at a time. In 2023, Shubham joined, and the studio became what it is today: three people who care more about a real moment than a perfect one.
None of us set out to be wedding photographers. Pranay and Shubham are engineers by training — the kind of people who chose a camera over a career path everyone expected of them. With a background in architecture, Avantika now spends her days understanding people instead — what they want, what they’re nervous about, what they haven’t said out loud yet.
In a quest for photography with meaning keys and blacks have travelled acorss and India and abroad. With over 300+ weddings portfolio, it has taught us about how people fall in love, celebrate, and remember. And every wedding has reinforced the same belief we started with — that authentic moments, held with care, age better than staged ones. We yearned to create images with a deeper meaning—images without a shelf-life.
Pranay
Pranay is the one who makes sure the vision actually becomes the wedding day — running the ground game, solving the problems no one else sees, and helping Avantika keep the studio moving forward. Also an engineer-turned-storyteller, he’s the one behind the studio’s films, and he’s as comfortable behind a piece of software as he is behind a camera. If something at Keys and Blacks works smoothly, there’s a good chance Pranay built the system that makes it work.
Shubham
Shubham is the eye behind Keys and Blacks — the one who decides what a frame should feel like before it’s even shot. He came to photography from engineering, trading logic for instinct, and it shows in how he works: patient, observant, always waiting for the moment that hasn’t happened yet instead of chasing the one that already has.
Avantika
Avantika is who couples will likely talk to first — and the reason they feel steady, not overwhelmed, through the whole planning process. She runs the business side of Keys and Blacks: sales, operations, closing the details that make a wedding day actually happen. Trained as an architect, she brings the same instinct for structure to people as she once did to buildings — she listens first, then helps couples make the decisions that matter.
