Ahilya & Andrew | Rambagh palace, Jaipur
For Ahillya and Andrew, their Rambagh Palace Jaipur wedding began on a sunlit lawn with a rope, two teams and the kind of laughter that happens when families stop being polite. Guests from two continents, some in kurtas and some in floral shirts, pulled against each other barefoot, with no one thinking about the camera. A cross-cultural wedding is often described as two worlds meeting. Here it felt like two families finding out how easily they could play together.
The days that followed were full of small, tender moments: a friend leaning in to kiss Ahillya on the cheek, a cold drink in her hand, and a giant pink bloom behind them. The mandap was draped in yellow and wrapped in green, with the palace glowing behind it in the evening light. As documentary wedding photographers in Jaipur, we kept our distance and let the ceremony unfold: a groom waiting quietly under the drapes, a bride walking toward him, and a few guests wiping their eyes at the edge of the frame. Nothing was staged. These were the moments between the moments, which are usually the ones people remember.
By night, the palace was lit up, rose petals filled the air, and Andrew was lifted high by the people who love him while Ahillya laughed below. Later the dance floor dissolved into colour and movement, and we let the frames blur, because that is how the night felt. This Rambagh Palace Jaipur wedding was Indian and international, traditional and wonderfully chaotic.
